The avatar is a character which the controlled by a player, also often referred to as a "player character" or "toon."
Avatar creation[]
Starting a new avatar begins with choosing the avatar's name, first and last, and gender.
At this point, the avatar will emerge in the Isle of Storms as an ethereal being of a vaguely human form. Optionally talk to Arabella ahead for more information.
Follow the path until reaching a fork, where a mirror will be immediately to the left. Interacting with the mirror allows the appearance of the avatar to be chosen. When this is completed, the avatar will take form. Continue along the other path. A New Player Handbook can be acquired from a stone pedestal along the way to a small building.
Enter the building to find the Oracle. Speak to her, asking optional questions and choosing "ready to begin" to proceed with avatar creation. The Oracle will now ask three or four questions, which will determine the avatar's path, which determines his or her starting abilities and starting town.
The path is chosen once one of the options, essentially Courage, Love, or Truth, is chosen twice during the questioning:
- The Path of Courage results in the avatar starting as a fighter at the Battle of Highvale.
- The Path of Love results in the avatar starting as a ranger at the Battle of Solace Bridge.
- The Path of Truth results in the avatar starting as a mage at Blood River Massacre.
The avatar's starting path can be changed by then explicitly choosing Fighter, Ranger, or Mage to switch to Courage, Love, or Truth, respectively.
Warning: Trial account players can only change paths to Courage and cannot change back once this is done.
Once a path is chosen, leave the Oracle and continue along the path to the Lunar Rift. Use the rift to travel to the starting area for the avatar's path.
